Sleeping in, shopping, a museum and a night time lecture

So we had a free day today, which meant mostly people slept in. We are really getting to the point in the trip where everyone is tuckered out and wanting to gear up for a final push. So instead of walking around the city before it wakes up as i did week one, i missed breakfast and layed in bed.

Commence shopping: boo. You know i have a distaste for shopping in the states, and the old city shop full on makes me wanna vomit. Every shop you step past you here, "Hello my friend, come and see my shop, you don't have to buy, only one dollar" interestingly the $1 price isn't anything specific, just whatever you happened to be looking at. I was able to make it to a spice shop where the owner was very kind - most every shop will offer you water, juice, tea, coffee... and then run down the street to get it for you. When we came up to the shop though the owner's neighbor's boy was watching things. He claimed to be 14, but didn't look over 8 (which was confirmed by my fellow travelor's who are acustomed to the little ones of our species). Anyways, after the owner's prayer time ended he returned. It is interesting that from Muslims from all over the see go both to the Damascus gate and the Temple Mount to pray- still towards Mecca- which is mostly south of here. Point being, i got some sweet spices- hopefully someone will be able to do something useful with them in the state (Boyd? Alicia?, i am looking in your directions).
Then we got some kabob in the old city- bardered for that too.

After lunch we took a tour at the Tower of David Museum- ironically not actually David's tower in location or building. It did provide some nice views of the city and a brief overview of the history of Jerusalem. I realized in this time how much i have learned, because i already new most of what the museum meant to teach. Kevin 1. Tower of David Museum 0.

We had another nightime lecture by a guy who runs a church planting mission in Jerusalem- interesting fodder for our card games afterward at the hotel. After a few weeks, i have become comfortable in this city. Of course this feeling is coming just as the trip is winding up. Maybe i'll come back another time, we'll see.

Dear Kevin, It is 2:00 pm in
Denver, each time you have sent
me the email message Re: IPOD,
and Re:Party, I have only gotten your original email message from before you left the states. Perhaps you can post me the message here, and I can read it.
Friday, June 2... Continue safety on this last leg of your journey.
Love and prayers from Home.. Mom

June 5, Dear Kevin,
I'm having trouble publishing this post, this is my 5th try. Sorry if it shows up 5 times. It did take my "test", which said peace.
I never thought I would be so happy to hear you say that you are back in Jerusalem! Now we will all be waiting to read about your time in Jordan. Dad and I are very anxious to see your smiling face and your weary body. We'll have a pillow ready for you.
love as always, Mom

A couple of techical tips,
it seems to take comments only
by "anonymous", rather than
"other"....
Also, at the risk of showing my ignorance, it took me quite a while to realize that I could enlarge your pix by simply clicking on them. Wow. What a difference, but it simply had not occurred to me.... perhaps there is one other reader out there who will benefit from this. I won't sign, but you know who I am...

love u forever

Kev, I know that I probably got you excited by asking for your mailng address, but I am sorry to say that time has flown and I realized that by the time I sent something, you woudl probably miss it on your way back home. To make up for it, I purchased a homecoming gift for you today that I believe you'll be very excited about. By the way, I'm glad that i've fooled you enough to make you think that I can cook. I'll see what i can do with those spices when you come over for dinner the minute you get back.

We miss you tons.

Benhas offered to try making some sort of very tempting grilled cheese sandwhich with the spices. from, ben: The cheese will have to be organic chees though, b/c my wife is succeeding in her campaign to turn me into a veggie-Nazi. Seriously though, i'd love to go get some tofurkey with you when you get home.

When is your ETA in the states?

We love you.

A&B

For Alicia and Ben....
Kevin's flight arrives today,
June 6, at 3:50 pm. Nils will pick him up, as his car is here at our house. We're hoping he will spend a little time with us before driving home to Boulder. By the way, thanks for agreeing with me about the buddy system early on.
I didn't spot that comment until much later. Kevin's blessed to have friends like you. love, "Mom"

Kevin, you make me smile. I just finished reading your whole blogging extravaganza - it's quite academic. I feel stupid now. Joking. I also feel like it was a trip you longed for and it didn't let you down. I'm excited to hear from you on my blog when I go to China. sorry for being inconsistent. I love you bud. Vlad
